RichardI am the facilitator of the Carers Art Groups at both Camden Carers and 1A Arts. It is such a pleasure to work with Carers and over the the past 6 years I have seen so many Carers find their creative confidence and develop their own styles and unique voice. Teaching Art for me was never encouraging people to all do the same thing, instead I enjoy really tapping into and helping nurture whatever it is that inspires each artist. This can often be daunting for newcomers but it has been a great pleasure and privilege to be part of so many creative journeys.
I have never included my own work in any of our previous exhibitions but as we adapted to the lockdown and went full speed ahead into the digital space, via Zoom, I was given the chance to take part. I am a painter and my first love is the landscape. I worked conceptually and painted in an abstract way for many years but I realised that the first thing that ever inspired me to create was the landscape, sea and skies of East Anglia, where I grew up. I went to Art school and have a degree in Fine Art, however, I consider myself a self taught painter. Art school taught me how to think about Art and how to take myself seriously as an artist but I was always disappointed to realise that very few Art schools actually ‘Teach’ painting. Passion led me to learn and now passion leads me to teach. |
